A Literal Can of Worms

Doesn’t everything feel a bit overcomplicated lately? Even something as simple as buying a pair of pants or running to the store for a carton of eggs seems to require a minimum hour of research and some deep contemplation. What materials are these pants made of? What do the reviews say? Where were they made? Who owns the company that made them? is he a jerk? Brown eggs? White eggs? Free range or cage free? What did the chickens eat? Were they happy? Yes, it feels as though doing anything these days is an experience akin to opening a can of worms. Since I have always wanted to experiment with packaging design, and because creativity is my favorite coping mechanism, I decided to use my free will to make a literal can of worms. Designed, printed, assembled, and photographed by yours truly, this project proved to be a test of my skills and a teacher of lessons in planning and execution. Each can was then sent to my favorite design studios around the New York metropolitan area in what may be the most unhinged promotion of design services I have personally ever seen.
